The “bottle in the castle” project originates from a simple action: drawing a line connecting the highest area of the Fedespina estate with the lowest one through a staircase. This elementary gesture allowed us to divide the plot and position the Fedespina castle and the terraces. The new volume face east, making the best use of the shadows generates. It enjoys a privileged view of the valley, the vineyards, and the existing structures of the estate. The choice of the castle was suggested after a careful analysis of the area, from which we recovered compositional elements such as arches, and from the surrounding villages. Starting from Mulazzo and studying all the surrounding villages, we noticed that they all had one peculiar element: the castle. Hiding a bottle, as visible in section, inside a castle, is the best way to meet the client’s requirements, taking care of the place where the estate is located. On the opposite side of the castle are present the terraces, the stairs connecting them have both a distributive function and they are an extensions of them. We have placed the most touristic functions inside the embankments, making the terrace usable with the best view. Even though the compositional principle is made up of three elements, the staircase, the castle, and the terraces, they are fully connected.
